Gary Allen Garitone, 77

Gary Allen Garitone, 77, of Mullan, Idaho, a lifelong resident of the Silver Valley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away Dec. 10, 2023, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho. Gary was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Wallace, Idaho, a son of the late Gene Garitone and Ev (Rowley) Garitone.

Gary graduated from Mullan High School, Class of 1966. He married Kris Engebretson on Sept. 3, 1966, at The Hitching Post in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The couple raised two children, Gina and Marty. Gary worked for various mines in the valley including Lucky Friday, Galena and Dayrock, and finally retired from the Coeur mine.

He enjoyed restoring cars, and riding motorcycles and was known to be the repairman to his grandchildren for all their bikes and toys. He could fix just about anything and his grandkids loved to bring him all their broken things. One of his greatest joys was being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gary also liked to watch football and, in his younger years, was a boxer in high school.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by a brother, Ron Garitone.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Kris Garitone, of the family home in Mullan, Idaho; two children, Gina (Doug) Luchini of Libby, Mont., and Marty (Heather) Garitone of Mullan, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Jordan, Michaela, Kole, Jillian, Hannah, Caitlin and Evy; three great-grandchildren, Koen, Harvey and Elijah; one brother, Mike (Nancy) Garitone of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; a sister, Pam (Tom) Carrico of Mullan, Idaho; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

His family will gather at a later date this summer to celebrate his life.
