Janice 'Jan' Marlene Griffin, 73

Janice “Jan” Marlene Griffin, 73, of Smelterville, Idaho, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Jan. 30, 2023, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Jan was born on Feb. 8, 1949, in Newberg, Ore., a daughter of the late Clarence and Virginia Asche.

The family later moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where Jan graduated from Anchorage High School, Class of 1969. Later, she met Fredrick Griffin and the two were married on Aug. 9, 1974, in Coeur d’Alene. To this union were born three daughters, Heather, Holly and Hilary. Fredrick passed away June 19, 2022.

Jan adored her family and loved spending time with all of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles, sewing and catching up on her favorite TV shows.

Survivors include her three daughters, Heather (Mark) Freber of Smelterville, Idaho, Holly (Marc) Olson of Post Falls, Idaho, and Hilary (Travis) Guertin also of Post Falls; five grandchildren, Lakoda Griffin, Victoria Olson, Prestin Gibbs, Madison Gibbs and Samuel Olson; a great-grandson, Bentley Griffin; a sister, Barb (Jim) Duling of Sunapee, N.H.; two nephews, Don and Shawn Duling; as well as numerous cousins.

Friends and family may gather from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at Shoshone Funeral Services, 106 S. Main St., Kellogg, Idaho, for a period of visitation. Funeral services will follow at noon Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at Shoshone Funeral Services, Kellogg. Jan will be laid to rest next to her husband, Fredrick, at Shoshone Memorial Gardens in Kingston, Idaho.
