OSBURN — The Silver Valley Community Christmas Fund Tele/Video-Thon was more than two months ago, but the final tally is in — and once again it looks like the community stepped up in a big way.

Once again hosted by the Shoshone News-Press in conjunction with Shoshone County, Dave Smith Chevrolet, and local florist Sarah Murphy (of Sol and Serre), the hybrid video, social media and telephone event was a fun-filled day that demonstrated the local community’s willingness to step up and take care of its own.

After a day full of special interviews, singing and craft demonstrations — the donations poured in.

Even though the final number didn’t quite live up to the goal that the fundraiser’s organizers set, it was nothing to be disappointed by.

$18,704.50 was received by Shoshone County Clerk Tamie Lewis-Eberhard, slightly down from last year’s fundraiser the money received was more than enough to cover the reason for the event.

Each year the proceeds from the Silver Valley Community Christmas Fund go to provide holiday meals for families in need.

At its purest, donating to this cause is an investment in your community.

All of the money is spent locally, which helps out the local grocery stores as well as those in need.

This year, more than 1,000 people spent $10,675.26 via food vouchers at local grocery stores on holiday meal items.

“This year’s Silver Valley Community Christmas Fund drive was another huge success,” Eberhard said previously. “I continue to be in awe of the generosity of our friends, fellow citizens and business partners in the Silver Valley. You all make Christmas truly special for so many. When our neighbors are in need, we come together to make their lives a little easier. It takes a community working together to accomplish great things, and Shoshone County does just that.”

Once the dust settles on the holiday meals and reimbursing the grocery stores for the vouchers — the remaining funds are donated to the Silver Valley Meals on Wheels program.

Money also came in from the Santa’s Workshop group in Wallace — which provided toys for 445 children from 179 different families.

In the end, Silver Valley Meals on Wheels will receive $9,000, which will help them considerably during the year.
