Jay A. Higbee III, 90

Jay Andrew Higbee III, 90, of Cataldo, Idaho, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and lifelong Silver Valley resident, passed away Feb. 13, 2023, at Mountain Valley of Cascadia in Kellogg, Idaho. Jay was born on April 18, 1932, in Kellogg, a son of the late Jay Higbee Jr. and Helen (Rosenbaum) Higbee.

Jay graduated from Kingston High School, Class of 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He married Betty Cochrane on July 9, 1953, in Pinehurst, Idaho. Jay worked for his father as a logger at the J.A. Higbee and Sons Logging Company and then became the owner and operator after his father passed away.

Being an outdoorsman, Jay enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of the NRA and a member of the Golden Eagles.

In addition to his parents, Jay is preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Higbee and Tom Higbee.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Betty J. Higbee of the family home in Cataldo; his two sons, Douglas (Janice) Higbee and Michael (Debbie) Higbee, both of Cataldo; his daughter, Cindy (Jay) Bridgewater of Canyon Lake, Texas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at Mountain View Congregational Church, 525 W. Cameron Ave., Kellogg. A potluck reception will follow the services at the church.
