Mona L. Alfrey, 70

| February 21, 2023 12:16 AM

Our families sorrowfully announce the passing of Mona Lea Alfrey (Boje) of Spokane Valley, Wash. (Pierce, Idaho, Medicine Bow, Wyo., and Silverton, Idaho), on Feb. 1, 2023. Mona was surrounded by her family passing quickly and comfortably after almost three years of a well-fought ovarian cancer diagnosis.

A beautiful daughter, sister, mother, aunt and Grammy, Mona, was the best friend, loved harder than anyone we knew, and was the strongest Mom we could have ever asked for.

Mona graduated from Eastern Washington State College (EWU) with her teaching credentials in 1975. Mona educated, inspired and guided students for 34 years in her classrooms, and outside the classroom until her passing.

Mona had two sons (Spokane Valley and Bronx, N.Y.) who were her entire purpose.

Mona was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy (Davis) and Vernon; brother-in-law Keith and grandson Jeremy. She is survived by sisters, Cynthia (Bly) and Susan; sons Joshua (Jenna) and Courtney; grandbabies, Kaden (Maulsby), Cannon and Kingston; nieces Amy (Fauver), Wendi (Fauver) and Brookie (Wesley McCoy); nephews Michael (Selena), Matthew and Michael (Troutwine); seven great-nieces, six great-nephews and two great-great-nephews.

Please consider a donation in Mona's name to Providence Inland Northwest Foundation — Gynecologic Oncology Clinic or Infusion, and/or Kellogg High School District No. 391, as these were milestone organizations in her life.

In Mona's honor, a 5:30 p.m. rosary vigil will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Spokane Valley. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kellogg, Idaho, followed by a hosted luncheon by St. Rita's Catholic Daughters Court of St. Therese'. A 3 p.m. graveside service will finish on April 29, 2023, at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Spokane Valley. Services officiant to be Father Kevin Oiland.
