It's a girl!
COEUR d'ALENE — Emily Truscott was due to give birth to her second child on Dec. 28. The baby, like many, was late.
So when she began having contractions on New Year's Eve at their St. Maries home, husband Tyson Truscott didn't hesitate to help his wife to their car and begin the 55-mile drive to Kootenai Health.
"It was a fast drive," Emily said Sunday afternoon.
"I did a little speeding," added a smiling Tyson.
They made it, with time to spare.
The couple reached the Coeur d'Alene Hospital about 10 p.m. and at 4:55 a.m. New Year's Day, Emily gave birth to a daughter, who weighed 8.1 pounds and measured 19 and 3/4 inches long.
Maclain Truscott was sleeping, peaceful in mom's arms Sunday afternoon. She joins a sister, 5-year-old Elliott, who was also born at Kootenai Health
"Our daughter wanted a girl," Emily said. "She wanted a sister."
For being the first baby of 2023 born at Kootenai Health, baby Truscott received a gift basket.
