LETTER: Another Hero Passes
My respect for Ed Pommerening began back when he became a school board member, and attended all meetings fresh from his job, work clothes and all. He represented graphically the working class part of our citizenry: miners, super fund workers, with no question. His low-key contribution to the board was always student-centered and thoughtful. Then, watching the results of his work on the disgraceful hills, patiently converting them to the wonderland we now enjoy, my respect continued to grow.
I think a bronze statue or some kind of memorial should be erected in the Town Square for this great and humble man. His work is as important to the valley as the improvement to the disgraceful river which we can credit to the EPA Superfund. Let's always remember this man.
