Patrick J. Hellman, 81

Patrick “Pat” John Hellman, 81, of Osburn, Idaho, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2023, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho. Pat was born on March 19, 1941, in Dickinson, N.D., one of 12 children born to the late Joseph M. Hellman and Margaret Steckler Hellman.

After growing up in Phillipsburg, Mont., Pat relocated to the Silver Valley in 1967. On July 3, 1968, he married Irene Mickelson in Wallace, Idaho. Pat and Irene shared more than 50 years of marriage before Irene passed away on Feb. 10, 2019. Pat worked several jobs throughout his life in the valley. He started out at the sawmill of the Burns – Yaak River Lumber Company in Osburn, Idaho. He later went on to work at the Day Mines as a miner as well as various other mines in the area, then on to Fausett Drilling, and lastly Pat co-owned and operated Dynamic Drilling.

Pat was a member of the Wallace Eagles, the Wallace Men’s Bowling League and the Mullan Mixed Bowling League. He greatly enjoyed gardening and taking great pride in his yard work.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Irene, Pat is preceded in death by his siblings, Johnny, Valentine, Joseph, Agnes, Dorothy, Regina, Evelyn and Mike.

Survivors include his eight children, Gloria (Chris) Johnston of Belgrade, Mont., William “Bill” (Susanne) Hellman of Manhattan, Mont., Judith (Lee) Page of Osburn and Patricia (Joe) Lopez of Littlefield, Texas, Daisy (Joe) Cassidy of Davenport, Wash., Robert (Min) Boyd of Boise, Idaho, Arthur Ray (Karen) Boyd of Chico, Calif., Aaron (Rhonda) Boyd of Missoula, Mont.; three sisters, Rose Dalton, Margaret Hedelan and Lorraine Hatch. Pat is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Pat’s request, cremation will take place and his family will gather at a later date.
