1910 Coffee Co. opens in Wallace
WALLACE — “Friends bring happiness into your life. Best friends bring coffee.”
The newest coffee shop in Wallace held its grand opening this past Saturday, becoming the town’s first and only drive-through coffee stand.
The 1910 Coffee Co. introduces coffee and friends, as the owner and manager, Aby Berger and Zoey Zanetti, have been best friends for years.
“My mom and I have been talking about buying a coffee stand for a really long time,” Berger said. “We just never had the right property to put it on. And then one day I was having lunch with my dad, and he mentioned that the parking lot across from the Brooks Hotel would be a perfect spot.”
With the support of her parents, Wallace business owners Anna and Mark Berger met with the Brooks Hotel owners, who owned the lot.
“We went and talked everything out with Emily Nelson at the hotel, and it all worked out from there,” she said.
Berger then called her best friend Zoey Zanetti, who has years of experience working in coffee shops, and asked, “Hypothetically, if I build a coffee stand will you come run it for me?”
Zanetti agreed, and plans quickly progressed.
What happened next was a marvel of local business cooperation.
Zanetti used her connections to bring the family construction business, Zanetti Bros., to complete the excavation and dirt work.
Many hands make light work, and the coffee shop was built from the ground up in an impressive 80 days. Including the support from Zanetti Bros., the building plans were drawn up by Jennifer Oertli, and then foundational work began from Alpine Construction. The framing was completed by BJ Liden and Josh Paulson with LaRiviere, Northside Electric completing the electrical work. Covenant Construction and Plumbing helped set up the indoor plumbing, and the interior work was completed by Alpine Painting and Remodel. The merchandise logo for the shop was designed by Jen Hayman and printed by Ashlee Myles at Pressed on Pine in Wallace, including stickers, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and more.
The shop is currently serving coffee from Caffe’ D’ Arte located in Spokane and also offers teas, hot chocolate, and Red Bull and Lotus blasters.
“There are going to be food options eventually,” Berger said. “We want to have breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, bagels. We have snack foods like muffin tops and protein pucks to start out with.”
As both Berger and Zanetti were both born and raised in Wallace, they love the town and history, so they brainstormed with friends to create a name that embodied that. The 1910 fire was an impactful event in Wallace’s history, as one-third of the town was burned to the ground, causing the small town to rebuild or relocate many of its structures.
“One of my friends, TJ Little, came up with 1910, and we added coffee co. to it. Eventually, we are going to have storyboards on the side of our building to help explain the historical aspect.”
The 1910 Coffee Co. is open seven days a week, offering discounts to military/veterans, first responders, and every Wednesday, students and teachers can get $1 off their drink.
The shop is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is located at 405 Fifth St. in Wallace.
