Ryan P. Sheppard, 48

Ryan Peter Sheppard, 48, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away Jan. 4, 2023. Ryan was born on June 5, 1974, in Silverton, Idaho, the son of Pete and Shary (Nelson) Sheppard.

Ryan attended local schools and graduated from Kellogg High School, class of 1993. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Gulf War. He later returned to school and received his B.S. at Bellevue University in general studies and his M.S. in justice system administration. He then went on to complete his Idaho Teaching Credential.

Ryan was a second-grade teacher at Pinehurst Elementary School. He married Tori Holmes on Jan. 1, 2011, in Superior, Mont.

Ryan was an avid disc golfer who enjoyed the outdoors, spending time on the Oregon Coast and camping. Ryan was also passionate about martial arts and coaching.

Survivors include his wife, Tori Sheppard of Kellogg; five children, Rya Sheppard, Jaymee Sheppard, Skylar Sheppard, Ryne Stull and Krystn Castleberry; parents Pete and Shary Sheppard of Kellogg; brother Ron (Tammy) Sheppard of Frenchtown, Mont.; sister Angela Austin Reed (Kevin) of Coeur d'Alene; an uncle, Bruce Nelson (Linda) of Spokane; an aunt, Rona VanDyke (John) of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His grandparents, Ron and Nina Sheppard, and Leo and Dora Nelson, preceded Ryan in death.

A celebration of Ryan's life will be held this summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Ryan's name to The Shoshone County SAVE Coalition for Suicide Prevention or to The Wounded Warrior Project.
