SMELTERVILLE — The new year is the perfect time to get a handle on your health, as the beginning of the year can feel like a fresh start.

Walmart stores nationwide will be hosting the first Walmart Wellness Day of the year this Saturday, supporting customers in underserved communities with free and affordable ways to be proactive about their health.

“A fresh new year presents a great opportunity to really check in on our health as families and as communities,” said Kevin Host, Walmart’s senior vice president of pharmacy. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’re able to offer through our Wellness Day events.”

The Walmart pharmacy will be offering free health screenings for things like glucose, cholesterol, BMI and blood pressure, as well as affordable immunizations for flu, COVID-19, mumps, measles, and more.

“This day encourages families to prioritize their health by not only helping them know and understand their numbers, but also providing the tools and resources to seek care and improve and maintain healthy lifestyles,” Host said.

Walmart has hosted Walmart Wellness Days since 2014, stating in a press release, “More than 4,000 Walmart stores are in medically underserved areas, which means that Walmart is often the first stop for health care in these rural and underserved communities.”

Walmart pharmacies will offer:

• Free health screenings include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, and body mass index.

• Affordable immunizations, including flu, measles, mumps, pneumonia, and more.

• No cost to patients, COVID-19 vaccines.

• Wellness resources and the opportunity to talk with pharmacists.
