Gary Wesley Bailey, 68
Gary Wesley Bailey, 68, of Silverton, Idaho, passed away June 7, 2023, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Gary was born on Feb. 2, 1955, to Wesley and Lois Bailey at the Wallace Providence Hospital. Gary will be remembered by all as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He began working at the Galena Mine two days after he graduated in 1973 from Wallace High School. He retired from the Galena after 43 faithful years. He started underground but moved to working surface jobs after he and his wife had children. His last job was spent being the Hoistman on the No. 1 Galena Mine Shaft. His nickname was the “Hub.” Everybody knew who the Hub was. Gary liked everyone and the feeling was always mutual, he had a great personality and was loved by many.
Gary met Roanna “Annie” Knoll of Kellogg, Idaho, and they were married on Nov. 27, 1982, at the American Lutheran Church in Kellogg. Gary and Annie had two children, daughter Gretchen (1986) and son Eric (1989), They were his pride and joy, and they knew it! Gary was baptized and a member of the American Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his children, Gretchen (Kyle) Mann of Cataldo, Idaho, and Eric W. Bailey, of Wardner, Idaho. His grandchildren: Kymber, Westin and Waylon Mann. His brothers: William Bailey of Post Falls, Idaho; Dennis (Kathy) Bailey of E. Wenatchee, Wash. His sisters: JoAnne Bailey of Homestead, Fla., and Nancy Elliott of Wallace, Idaho. He had several nieces and nephews.
His many friends will always remember the joy he had playing Schooner Softball, bowling in the Monday night league, coaching both his children’s sports as needed, snow and water skiing, swimming, bicycle riding, snow shoveling his driveway and mowing his yard. His Yorkie dogs, Penny, Champ and Daisy, were great companions. Gary never missed an event that his kids were in, he was their greatest fan. He also enjoyed singing goofy songs to his grandkids which they will always remember.
Our family has many wonderful memories spent with Gary which will be cherished forever. Our hearts are broken that he was taken from his earthly body so soon, but we find comfort in Gods promise of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ and we look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
Many thanks to all of our friends and family who lifted us up in prayer this past year. We are truly blessed to be loved and supported by so many great people.
At Gary’s request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Memorials can be made to The Schneidmiller Hospice House, 2290 W. Prairie, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815; or Real Life Ministries Silver Valley, 708 N. Division St., Pinehurst, ID 83850.
