KHS alumni game set for this Friday
KELLOGG — Basketball season may be over for the local high schools, but for the Kellogg High School Wildcats there are still two games to be played.
This Friday marks the second Kellogg High School Alumni Basketball Games and from the rosters, it looks to be an entertaining evening.
The games are played between the schools’ varsity programs and a rotating group of KHS alumni where the competition waxes between comical and competitive (go watch last year’s event on Wildcats Live if you don’t believe me).
The event is put on by the KHS Leadership Class under the direction of Adam Ream.
This year, the event is being used as a charity fundraiser to benefit local food banks — this includes admission to the game, five bucks or five nonperishable food items.
Last year, then-junior and current ASB president Nate Turner, a KHS student involved in both leadership and student government discussed how this event was something that the leadership group hoped would connect the students with the alumni as well as carry on into the future.
The 2022 event was a packed house, and if that energy is built off at all, then 2023 should be incredible.
KHS senior and ASB vice president Haylee Potts has been busy as a bee with her fellow leadership classmates getting the event put together and hopes to see it succeed once again.
“Events like these are so popular because they bring in the community and show how much pride the school has,” Potts told the News-Press. “It is a great way to involve the community and the alumni of Kellogg High School.”
As of press time, there were still open spots on the alumni girls roster — so anyone who would like to play should get ahold of the school to be considered.
This year’s rosters are loaded with talent, which is good because both the boys' and girls' teams at KHS were exceptionally talented.
This year the alumni girls' roster features Jody Rose, Cassie White, Cassandra Benning, Brittany Bowen, Jordan Budd, Dusty Boone, Marly Chambers, Kaili Cates, Marah Ashcraft and Tomi O’Neill.
The alumni boys’ roster includes Brock White, Ryan Mann, Tyrel Davis, Brennen Atkins, Dillion Stovern, Hogan Samuelson, Cade Finlay, Ethan Wendt, Garrett Wendt, Ryne Stull, Grant Nearing, Cody Lewis and Tanner Mueller.
The Kellogg High School Alumni Basketball Games are Friday, March 17, with the girls' game tipping off at 5 p.m., followed by the alumni cheerleading performance, and then the boys' game beginning immediately after.
