Anne Marie Lyons Presta, 85, a longtime resident of the Spokane Valley, passed away March 7, 2023.

Anne was born in Kellogg, Idaho, to Gertrude and Reginald Lyons, in December 1937, where she was raised. She graduated from Kellogg High School in 1956, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from the University of Idaho, graduating in 1960. During her time at the U of I, she enjoyed being an active member of the Beta Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi, was a member of Mortar Board for academic achievement, and a devoted member of the Vandaleers.

Anne’s first teaching assignment was with Spokane Public School District in Spokane, Wash., in the fall of 1960. She later taught for the West Valley School District, then taught for 24 years with the Central Valley School District as an Elementary School Vocal Music Specialist. During this time, Anne also performed with the Spokane Chorale, led her church choir and taught private piano lessons.

Anne married Julius Presta on Oct. 5, 1963. They had two children: Kathleen Presta who later married Darron Bowerman, and Steven Presta who later married Aryn Hanson.

Anne Presta was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by her two siblings, Frank (Barbara) Lyons and Mary Kay Lyons-Hanson; her children and their spouses, her four grandchildren and her great-grandchild; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Anne’s love of music touched many facets of her life. It was her passion and even how she made her living. She also enjoyed spending every summer of her life at Rose Lake. Her deepest devotion was her family and every day she gave lovingly to her children, her husband, her parents, her in-laws and her siblings. She diligently worked in and out of the home to care for her family. Anne deeply loved and enjoyed her friends, as well.

A memorial service will be held in May. Memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Spokane Valley, Wash.
