Ted Orville Slack, 80

Ted Orville Slack, 80, of Pinehurst, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away May 12, 2023, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho. Ted was born Oct. 8, 1942, in Kellogg, Idaho, one of eight children to the late Joseph Slack and Nellie (Striker) Slack.

After graduating from Kellogg High School, Class of 1960, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1963 after being stationed in Fort Carson, Colo. He married Kathryn Boyce on June 14, 1965. Ted worked for the City of Pinehurst for 28 years as the street overseer, as well as the building inspector.

Ted was a Pinehurst City Councilman, a member of the Pinehurst Lions Club, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a hard worker and always had a smile and laugh for everyone. Above all, he was a loving father and husband. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and they adored him.

In addition to his parents, Ted is preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph Slack, Mildred Willis, Joyce Minor, Patricia Miller, Delores Williams Hoggsett, Connie Dunger and Helen Hill.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Kathryn Slack of the family home in Pinehurst, Idaho; daughter Julie (Rick) Westby of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; two grandchildren, Joshua (Sean) Westby of Post Falls, Idaho, and Jennifer Westby of Dubai.

His family will gather at a later date to celebrate his life and suggest that a donation in his memory be made to the Pinehurst Lion’s Club or to the favorite charity of one’s choice.
