Celebrate America's heroes this Veterans Day
Veterans Day celebrations, ceremonies and more will take place throughout the community in the days leading up to when we honor America's heroes.
Here is a list of Veterans Day events in our area:
Nov. 9
Free dental clinic for veterans | 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., North Idaho College Dental Hygiene Clinic, Winton Hall, 536 N. College Drive, Coeur d'Alene. Operation Veteran Smiles is open to U.S. veterans and provides services by NIC dental hygiene students and faculty, as well as volunteers from the local dental community. Night of Honor | 6-9 p.m., Post Falls American Legion Post 143, 1138 E. Poleline Ave. Award ceremony and fundraiser benefiting local servant warriors and programs that benefit military, veterans, first responders and their families. If you know a veteran or first responder who has exhibited character excellence and you'd like to honor them at this event, visit jraphaconsulting.com/nominate to fill out the nomination form. Nov. 10
Veterans Day Assembly | 2:15 p.m., Spirit Lake Elementary School, 32605 N. Fifth Ave., Spirit Lake. Third graders will present poems, service anthems and thank-you letters to veterans. The program begins at 2:30 p.m. Open to the public.
Nov. 11, Veterans Day
Silver Valley Veterans Day Ceremony and Chili Feed | 11 a.m., Silver Valley Veterans Memorial Hill St. and Railroad Ave., Kellogg. Shoshone VFW 1675 will honor veterans at the memorial in Kellogg before hosting a chili feed at 11:30 a.m. at the VFW 1675 at 318 E. Mullan Ave., Osburn.
Free car washes for veterans | Metro Express Car Wash, 3131 Conference Drive, Coeur d'Alene; 4041 E. Primrose Lane, Post Falls. Metro Car Wash will offer complimentary car washes to veterans all day.
Wills for Warriors | 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 8596 N. Wayne Drive, Hayden. Estate planning event hosted by eLegacy Law and the Crandall Law Group. Veterans are invited to come and create their free basic wills. Openings are limited. Qualify and register: info@elegacylaw.com or 208-719-7293
Veterans Recognition Ceremony | 10 a.m., Lakeland High School, 7006 Highway 53, Rathdrum. Free lunch at noon in the commons area. A celebration to meet, honor and thank veterans.
Veterans Day Ceremony | 11 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, McEuen Park, 504 E. Front Ave., Coeur d'Alene. American Legion Post 14, Coeur d'Alene, will host a ceremony to honor and celebrate veterans. Newby-ginnings of North Idaho founder and Gold Star mom Theresa Hart is the honored guest speaker. Honor Guard presentation, flyover and complimentary coffee and pastries.
City of Hayden Veterans Day and Distinguished Veteran Ceremony | 11 a.m., McIntire Family Park, 8930 N. Government Way. The city of Hayden and its Veterans Commission will hold the 17th annual Veterans Day Ceremony and recognize the 2023 Distinguished Veteran of the Year, Christopher Spatz. Names of those on newly installed pavers in the PFC Robert J. Gordon Memorial Plaza will be announced. Capt. Bill Muck of the U.S. Air Force is the honored guest speaker.
Veterans Day Lunch Event | 10:30 a.m., Post Falls American Legion Post 143, 1138 E. Poleline Ave. Idaho Veterans Chamber of Commerce Meet and Greet until 11 a.m. Presentation at noon. Free lunch. Dr. Neilly Buckalew will discuss a free treatment available with VA benefits to those with headaches and conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder. Q&A, social time at 1:30 p.m.
Annual Veterans Dinner | 6 p.m., Athol American Legion Hall, 5525 E. Highway 54. Presented by American Legion Auxiliary No. 149. Barbecue beef brisket, mashed potatoes, corn, dinner rolls, salad and desserts. $10 for non-veterans. Meals are free for all military personnel.
