| November 24, 2023 11:18 AM

James E. (Jim) Langstaff of Cataldo passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Hospice of North Idaho in Coeur d’Alene, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. This quiet and gentle soul will leave an empty place in the hearts and lives of all he knew.

Jim was born on February 20, 1950, in Kellogg, the only son of Orpha and Ed Langstaff. He graduated from Kellogg High School in 1969 and worked at Bunker Hill and Sunshine Mines, and later at Kiki Logging before working for Shoshone County. In 1984, he married the love of his life, Carol, and they settled in his childhood home in Cataldo.

After retirement, Jim spent his time with all things hot rod with the V8 Club and the Dukes of Spokane. He belonged to a toy club in Spokane where he collected and restored children’s toys. He loved trap shooting as well as long rifle. Most of all he enjoyed all his friends and family. He became a father and grandfather to his step-children, Kevin and Shelly James, and their two children, Jarek and Jory of Tennessee, and Keith and Heather James of Kingston along with their two children, Cody and Hayden.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be planned for the spring where family, friends, and neighbors may reminisce about this kindly man. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Jim’s name to Hospice House of Coeur d’Alene.

The family extends a truly grateful thank-you to the staff at Hospice. A special thank you goes to all the many friends who visited him and who made Jim's last days so full of warmth and fellowship.
