| October 4, 2023 12:14 PM

WALLACE –– The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery that took place in a remote area south of Wallace.

The incident reportedly took place Monday evening on Moon Pass – according to reports, a hunter was approached by two individuals who asked if the hunter was armed, the two individuals then hit the hunter over the head with a blunt object.

The victim told police that the two individuals drove a beat-up, white sedan, with a tied-down trunk.

A few days prior, it was reported that a hunter was held at gunpoint and stripped of their freshly killed elk in the St. Joe region of Shoshone County.

Currently, Shoshone County Sheriff Holly Lindsey is not indicating that these two incidents are related, but would like to offer some advice to anyone who is going out into remote areas to hunt.

  • Recreate with a buddy.

  • If confronted by someone with seemingly bad intentions, try to be social and remove yourself from the situation without getting involved in a verbal confrontation. (Be assertive but not aggressive).

  • Keep your valuables out of site (both on your person and in your vehicle).

  • Carry a satellite messenger or a personal location device – and use it if you don't feel safe.

  • Know your surroundings

  • Worst case scenario, if your safety is compromised and you find yourself in imminent danger, defend yourself by reasonable means. Of course, defending yourself doesn't mean you can react however you please. Please know and understand the law.

If you have any information concerning the robbery or have seen a vehicle matching the previous description, please contact the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 556-1114.
