Ronald Rex, 82

Ronald Rupert Rex (Ronnie, Ron), 82, of Cataldo, Idaho, passed away into the loving arms of our Savior on Oct. 10, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. Ron was born July 31, 1941, to MaryLou (Warren) Rex and Rupert Rudolph Rex in Hamilton, Mont.

Ron graduated from Kellogg High School in 1960. He worked a short time with his father logging and entered the U.S. Army in November 1960. He was honorably discharged in May 1963. Ron worked for Tapley Cabinet Works in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for 11 years before starting his own business, Ron’s Cabinet Works. He retired in 2005 from his shop at his home in Cataldo and is well known for his custom cabinets.

Ron was an active member of the community. He coached little league baseball, was a lifelong member and champion at the Cd'A skeet club and served as a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of the Kootenai Republican Party, auctioneer for the Canyon School from 1974-2016 and a member of Pinehurst Community Church.

He loved the outdoors with a passion for fishing and duck hunting. He has many friends who can tell a good story about hunting with him. He enjoyed processing meat and also kept a large garden. Ron loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was grateful that Jesus saves. He was an avid card player who threw big parties on New Year's Eve.

Ron is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Kirk) Nelson of Cataldo; brother Doug (Diane) Rex of Wendell; grandchildren: Keira Nelson, Kaen Nelson and Shanyia (Jesse) Laudahl of Cataldo; great-grandchild Ella Laudahl; niece Rachel Rex and nephew Ryan (Kylie) Rex and families.

Service will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Pinehurst Community Church, 210 Main St., Pinehurst, ID 83850.
