River nonprofit announces total tire haul

| September 15, 2023 1:00 AM

This year’s river cleanup of the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River Rabbit’s Launch and the Cataldo Mission resulted in a whopping 3,540 pounds of tires being collected, more than double last year’s record.

The Friends of the River Coalition was formed three years ago to start making environmental improvements by raising awareness and creating infrastructure such as available dumpsters in popular recreation areas.

Currently, the nonprofit is working on creating spots to place additional trash bags and dispensers at nearby campsites and launches.

After receiving a grant for the trash dispensers from Cabela’s, the hope is to have them placed in the near future to continue to encourage those enjoying the river to keep it and the surrounding areas clean.
