WALLACE — The clock ran out on the old equipment at the Wallace Jr./Sr. High gymnasium, but never fear. New scoreboards and shot clocks have been added to boost the Wallace athletic program.

Wallace athletic director Corey Miller said that the new look adds to the self identity rooted in the school's red and black mural celebrating the Miners with a splash of vibrant color and artistic energy.

After about two decades with the same equipment, Wallace athletics took on the project of fundraising to replace the old scoreboards. With athletics funds, a $5,000 grant from the Idaho Gives Foundation and support from local businesses, the installation was completed a few weeks ago in time to start off the girls volleyball season with aplomb.

Miller said that it’s been even better enjoying the volleyball team’s winnings set alongside the new gym gear.

“They’re doing amazing and the school loves it. We started the process last fall of figuring out what we wanted to do and settled on getting two scoreboards for the gym. The LEDS are a nice addition,” Miller said.

After the scoreboards were mounted by Kip McGillivary, the district had to get additional assistance with adding the brackets for the shot clocks. The only remaining piece is to have the shot clocks wired into a power source ahead of basketball season.

The new boards will get the district up to new rules to include a shot clock, which will prepare students for what to expect while playing in state basketball tournaments.

“It’s always fun when you can do projects that will last a long time. Our last scoreboard lasted 20 years and we’re hoping this one will last over 20 years as well. It’s a source of pride for the kids,” Miller said.
