Body discovered in uptown Kellogg
KELLOGG — Police are investigating the death of a Kellogg man after his body was discovered Monday afternoon.
Kellogg Police responded to a report of an unconscious man lying on the ground behind a building on the corner of McKinley Avenue and West Park Avenue.
According to KPD Chief Paul Twidt, after determining that the man was deceased, the decision was made to call Idaho State Police to handle the investigation.
At this time, the investigation is being treated as a suspicious death investigation, however, Twidt stated that there were no apparent signs of foul play, but they aren't ruling anything out at this point.
Now the investigators will wait for toxicology results from the Shoshone County Coroner’s Office.
The deceased, who was identified as 27-year-old Reed Norris, was last seen leaving the nearby Dirty Dog Saloon in the early hours of Sunday morning. Through their investigation, ISP determined that Norris attempted to make a phone call on his cellphone roughly a half hour after he was last seen at the Dirty Dog Saloon.
Norris’s body was found laying on his back, up tight against the side of the building almost as if he had slumped against the outer wall before falling to the ground. He was fully clothed but appeared to have sustained a bloody nose.
Twidt was grateful for the assistance that his department received from the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office as well as ISP, which responded with several troopers and its mobile crime lab to aid in the investigation.
“Could my small department have handled this? I think so, but it would’ve taken all eight of us twice the amount of time and that’s just not fair to the taxpayers of Kellogg,” Twidt said. “They were able to bring in more people to help on this investigation than I have in total. When something like this happens, I don’t hesitate to call in as many resources as I can so that this is handled promptly and properly.”
The next of kin has been notified.
