Hecla's Star Mine in Burke still towers over the remaining homes at the top of the canyon. The mine has several remediation projects going on in and around it.

But in 2024, as fewer people are emphasizing owning their own vehicles, the idea of taking a drive has become a novelty that many people are rediscovering.
In Idaho, ghost towns have multiple meanings.
