| August 6, 2024 1:00 AM

Edith Ann Pennick, 82, passed away July 29, 2024, at her home in Cataldo, Idaho. She was born May 15, 1942, in Wichita, Kan., to the late John and Madee Smith.

From 1945 through 1953, the family lived in Blackwell, Okla., where she attended kindergarten through sixth grade. Her hometown from 1954 to 1964 was Hutchinson, Kan., where she graduated from Sherman Junior High School, Buhler High School and Hutchinson Community Junior College.

Her 62 years of marriage to Reynolds L. Pennick began Feb. 10, 1962. After the birth of two sons, they moved to Ashland, Kan., and then to Rawlins, Wyo., where their daughter was born. In 1978, her family found their home in northern Idaho.

Her greatest enjoyments were her children and grandchildren, pets and horses, gardening, sewing, cooking, photography and snowbirding in Arizona. Well known for her delicious cooking, she won first place several times in the Grace Lutheran Church Chili Cookoff.

She volunteered at Pinehurst Elementary School, her church, Silver Valley Vaqueros 4-H, Shoshone Rangers Saddle Club and quilting clubs. Like her beautiful quilts, she was the thread that wove her ever-growing family together.

In addition to her parents, Edith is preceded in death by a brother, Johnnie Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Reynolds Pennick; two sons, Robert and Jay Pennick; one daughter, Leanna Kemp; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Smith; and her brother, James Smith. Her generous love and easy laugh will be deeply missed by family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Shoshone Funeral Services, 106 S. Main St., Kellogg, ID. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shoshone Pet Rescue. After the service, a gathering will be held at 10109 S. Bentley Road, Cataldo, ID 83810. Edith’s favorite color was purple, and her family asked that attendees wear something purple in her honor.
