KINGSTON — The Friends of the River Coalition has announced the total pounds of waste they removed from the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River July 27.

After hours spent hauling tires and other detritus, volunteers diving and piloting water vessels pulled out 3,000 of waste from the waters, according to the Shoshone County Transfer Station.

F.O.R.C. volunteers extracted tires and other castoff items from the lower end of the North Fork from the CCC bridge to the Cataldo Mission to continue cleaning up the area around the river.

The group usually plans for one big cleanup event per year and now has a shuttle to help cut down on both parking along the river and the waste many leave behind while enjoying recreation activities in the vicinity.
