Gary 'Doc' Chambers, 89
Gary “Doc” Chambers, 89, of Mullan, Idaho, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away Aug. 12, 2024, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho. Gary was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Caliente, Nev., a son of the late Alton and Ann (Boggett ) Chambers.
Gary’s family relocated from Nevada to the Silver Valley in 1948, and he attended grade school and high school in Wallace, Idaho. Doc enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He married Gloria Erickson on Sept. 5, 1959, in Mullan, Idaho. Gloria passed away Feb. 28, 2016.
Doc began his mining career at the Star Mine and later went on to retire from the Lucky Friday Mine as a mine foreman. He was also a member of the Mine Rescue Team. Doc was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed elk hunting and spending time in the woods and at the family’s river property. Doc was a member of the Hummers Pinochle group, as well as on the Mullan Bowling League. His family and friends were very important to him and could always be seen supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events.
In addition to his beloved wife Gloria and his parents, Doc is preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Chambers, and two sisters, Maryann Harrington and Wava Beehner-Boyce.
Survivors include his children, Jeff (Tami), Jan (Steve) Bechen, Jason (Masina); grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jesse, Keven, Kelsey, Marley, Britt, and Jaron; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Taylor, Romy, Arye, Liam and Nova; siblings Dewayne, Bob, Kenny and Naomi Ballard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many life-time, dearest friends.
A celebration of Doc’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Wallace Elks Lodge, Wallace, Idaho. A potluck reception will follow.
