Commissioners considering options for airport fuel
WALLACE –– Last week, the Shoshone County Commissioners made the decision to look elsewhere for their fuel supply at Shoshone County Airport near Smelterville.
According to Commissioner Jeff Zimmerman, the county has been using City Service Valcon in recent years to handle the airport’s fuel and all credit card transactions at the facility, but the board believes they may be able to find a better deal elsewhere.
Zimmerman has been in contact with company AVFuel Corp., which operates out of Washington, to potentially take over these responsibilities. Before they could move forward, they needed the county to approve a motion allowing them to essentially run a credit check against the county to determine if the two entities could do business together.
Zimmerman told his fellow commissioners that Sandpoint Airport had recently switched to AVFuel Corp and had reportedly given him a positive review.
”I just want to make sure we’re getting the best deal we can,” Zimmerman said.
Shoshone County Airport is a rural, single-runway airport, located three miles west of Kellogg. The airport offers several public amenities for aviators, including a terminal with a lounge, and a shuttle van that pilots can use free of charge.
