Joanne Bowers, 88

| February 23, 2024 1:00 AM

Passing peacefully in her sleep, Joanne Bowers left this world Feb. 12, 2024. Joanne was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Hailey, Idaho, to parents John Seymour and Helen (Schaefer) Seymour. She leaves behind two daughters, Juli Jones and Jonna (Gary) Hongo; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Joanne led an adventurous life and was a woman of many talents. She worked for Bunker Hill in Kellogg, Idaho, for 25 years; spent the next 10 years traveling the Northwest ,where the Oregon coast was her favorite destination;  then went back to college to get her associate's degree and worked for the state of Washington until retiring at age 70.

Joanne loved to sew, paint and do jigsaw puzzles. Many times she sang in church choirs, sang at weddings and funerals and played the piano for school and community musicals. Joanne loved to write poetry and she was very fond of cats. Her friends and family frequently described Joanne as feisty and a pistol.

Joanne will be genuinely missed by her family and friends. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to honor her memory be sent to a local cat shelter by way of SpokAnimal.com. The family is not planning a service but will have a private interment.

The family would like to acknowledge, and are extremely grateful to, the staff at Cozy Place Adult Family Home in Spokane Valley, Wash., where Joanne lived the last 14 months of her life. We especially recognize the extraordinary love, compassion and care of Katie and Sara.
