KELLOGG –– A Kellogg man is in police custody following a shooting that occurred during a domestic dispute on Thursday morning.

Early Thursday morning, Kellogg Police Department officer David Bishop responded to a reported burglary that had resulted in a firearm being discharged at a home on the corner of Brown and Chestnut Streets.

When Bishop arrived at the residence he discovered that the burglary that he was responding to was an adult female who had been shot while she was attempting to gain entry to the home that she shared with her boyfriend, Owen Seatz, 22.

According to police, Seatz had been out drinking on Wednesday night into the early morning hours and upon returning home he and the victim had gotten into an argument. Allegedly, during the altercation, Seatz had physically removed the victim from the home multiple times. On her final attempt to re-enter the residence, the victim reportedly informed Seatz that she would be breaking the window to gain entry to the locked door and proceeded to break the window with a shovel – according to Kellogg Police, it was at this point when Seatz fired a shotgun at the victim who was struck by several of the pellets – she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

After taking Seatz into custody, KPD, along with assistance from the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence to gather evidence.

KPD Chief Paul Twidt told the News-Press that in their report to the Shoshone County Prosecutor’s Office, they were recommending that Seatz be charged with aggravated battery – but that could change at the discretion of the prosecutor.

Seatz had appeared in Shoshone County’s District Court on Monday morning where he had pleaded guilty to a single count of felony possession of a controlled substance and was out of police custody on bail awaiting his sentencing on April 1, of this year.

Seatz will be in Shoshone County Magistrate Court on Friday, January 26, where he will be formally read the charges he is facing for this new incident.
