Carl R. Claflin, 60
Carl R. Claflin, 60, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Carl was born Feb. 24, 1964, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Roy and Judith Claflin.
Carl attended and graduated (Class of 1982) from Tahoma High School in Maple Valley, Wash. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1982 to 1988. While in the Navy, Carl met the love of his life, Tammy Andrews. He and Tammy were married Feb. 28, 1986. Carl and Tammy lived in Ravensdale, Wash., until 1991. They went on to settle in the Silver Valley.
Carl worked many different jobs, including working as a bus driver and mechanic for both Kellogg School District 391 and Wallace School District 393. After the boys graduated, Carl went on to work the job he loved most, driving a truck. He drove for several companies before settling at Mercer Trucking, working there until his medical retirement.
In his spare time, Carl collected International Harvester vehicles. He was always bringing home a new project. Carl loved Jesus and without shame shared his faith to the very end. He was a member of The Worship Center in Smelterville. He loved driving the church bus and was always happy to pick others up for church Sunday.
Carl is survived by his wife of 38 years, Tammy Claflin; two sons, Ivan Claflin and Lance Claflin (Shasta); his mother, Judith; siblings Ken, Carroll, Larry and Annette; several nieces and nephews. Carl was a proud grandpa to Brian, Zachary, Andrew, Leila, Leelan and Hayden.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. at The Worship Center in Smelterville. A potluck luncheon will follow. Carl loved potlucks! Carl’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, monetary gifts to help with his final expenses would be greatly appreciated.
