FORC plans Coeur d'Alene River cleanup
KINGSTON — It’s time to return to the river.
The Friends of the River Coalition is coordinating its annual river cleanup Saturday.
Last August, volunteers in kayaks, boats and diving gear hauled more than 1,500 pounds of trash from the Coeur d’Alene River. The bulk of the materials were tires or car parts.
The nonprofit’s boat, the SS Tired, is outfitted and will depart with divers Bill Harris and Lynee Cavanaugh on Saturday. Volunteers will focus on the lower end of the North Fork from the CCC bridge to the Cataldo Mission.
The group has taken a grassroots approach to combating issues caused by dumping waste around the river and promote more responsible river use.
FORC is hosting a contest with a $100 prize on its Facebook page to guess the exact weight of the items pulled from the water.
