Gary Ross Rauenhorst, 79

| June 25, 2024 1:00 AM

Gary Ross Rauenhorst, 79, of Kellogg, Idaho.

We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of our deeply loved and cherished husband, father and grandfather. Gary peacefully left us June 18, 2024, at Sacred Heart Medical Center, surrounded by his wife and children. Gary was born April 4, 1945, in Bennettsville, S.C., a son of the late Lloyd Duane Rauenhorst and Frances E. (Dobbins) Rauenhorst.

At a young age, Gary’s family relocated to the Silver Valley, where he graduated from Kellogg High School, Class of 1963. He went on to attend Idaho State University in Pocatello, where he played football as a defensive end. Gary married his best friend and soulmate, Dawn Kahn, on Oct. 23, 1971. Together, they raised four children whom they were very proud of.

Gary dedicated over 40 years to the lumber industry, where he loved the smell of pine and took immense pride in his work. He retired as a quality control manager from Boise Cascade. Gary continued to work until the very end, keeping the Pinehurst golf course perfectly manicured.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed bass fishing with his best buddy, Greg Piller, elk hunting, camping with friends and family, and golfing. Early morning huckleberry picking in his “secret spot” and tending to his hummingbirds brought him great joy.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his stepfather, Archie Furnish. Archie provided kindness, patience and stability to the family beginning in Gary’s teen years.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dawn; his children, Tami Brown (Sean) of Spokane, Wash., Jessica Webster (Mike) of Boise, Idaho, Matthew Rauenhorst (Kathryn) of Vail, Ariz., and Casey Rauenhorst (Micky) of Boise, Idaho; his grandchildren, Jade, Grant, Zac, Blake, Cade, Ava, Olivia, Isabella and step-grandchildren Mariah and Eli; and his brothers, Rick Rauenhorst (Betty) of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Kevin Nolan (Sue) of Vancouver, Wash.

A service followed by a celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the Pinehurst Golf Course, 11 Country Club Lane, Pinehurst, ID.

“Rest in peace my forever love until we meet again”.
