Shoshone County primary candidates announced

| March 22, 2024 1:00 AM

The March 15 filing date has come and gone, but Shoshone County voters now know which races will be contested in the upcoming May primary elections.

The Republican ticket will feature two important races that could decide the outcome of November’s primary election – Shoshone County Commissioner District 1 and Shoshone County Clerk.

Incumbent Tracy Casady will square off against Melissa Cowles in the District 1 commissioner race. Cowles, who currently serves as a Republican Precinct Committeeperson and board member for the Shoshone County Republican Central Committee, announced her candidacy earlier this month.

Summer McWhorter, Edward Warren, and Lori Osterberg are vying for the county clerk’s position – which was vacated earlier this year and subsequently filled by interim Peggy White.

The rest of the races on the Republican primary ticket are uncontested.

District 3 Commissioner Jeff Zimmerman is seeking reelection.

Shoshone County Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Allen is seeking reelection.

David Hildebrand is running unopposed for the position of Shoshone County Sheriff.

There are also a handful of Republican Precinct Committee seats that are uncontested.

On the Democratic ticket, there are just two races, both unopposed.

Shoshone County Sheriff Holly Lindsey is seeking reelection.

Jack Rupp is running unopposed for the position of District 3 commissioner.

The Democratic Precinct has several uncontested committee positions open as well.

The winners of these races will face off in the November Primary Election.
