Shoshone County Sheriff's Office seeks second detective
WALLACE — The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office recently started the search for a second detective. Currently, the sheriff’s office has one.
SCSO hopes to fill the position by the end of May, and the new detective would mostly focus on investigating sex crimes in the county.
Capt. Seth Green of the sheriff’s office said he was concerned about future burnout and called the current caseload “alarming” compared to similar positions within the Idaho State Police.
The department also cited a recurring issue with current staff retention due to more competitive wages at other law enforcement agencies.
“We would have a massive void that would most certainly impact the community in a negative way,” Green said.
Triaging cases has been a temporary solution, but the sheriff’s office has determined reallocation of resources to take a deputy off the road for promotion is worth the exchange to add another detective.
The department estimates that the new detective will take about a year to train.
“This position is vital for the long-term success of Shoshone County being able to offer the best resources we have with the limited resources we have,” Green said.
