Shoshone County Election Results

| May 24, 2024 1:00 AM

WALLACE –– Two Shoshone County offices were effectively decided on Tuesday after it was announced that Melissa Cowles and Lori Osterberg had won their primary races.

Cowles, a Republican, won the county’s first district commissioner seat, beating out incumbent Tracy Casady. Osterberg, also a Republican, beat out Ed Warren for the open clerk’s position.

Both contested races had the unique distinction of being for seats currently occupied by people who had been appointed to their respective positions.

Democrat Jack Rupp will face incumbent Jeff Zimmerman for the District 3 commissioner position and incumbent Holly Lindsey will square off with Republican David Hildebrand for Shoshone County Sheriff in the November General Election.

Shoshone County Elections Clerk Savanna Willer was pleased with how efficiently the polls operated and how quickly they were able to release the results of the voting.

“Everything went pretty great yesterday,” Willer said.

The Shoshone Board of County Commissioners will now review and must sign off on the county’s unofficial results on May 28, before sending them to the State Board of Canvassers which will make the official determination on June 5.

Of Shoshone County’s 7,027 registered voters, only 1,688 (24%) cast ballots during the Primary, which Willer believes could be related to the low number of contested races.
