Shoshone County public works team achieve Road Scholar status

WALLACE — Six members of the Shoshone County Public Works team received their Road Scholar certification Wednesday at the Shoshone County Courthouse.
Since 2021, members of the Shoshone County Public Works Department have been working to gain Road Scholar status to help with county funding for future road projects.
The Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) requires about 80 hours of training to complete the program and public works participants have about four years to achieve their certification.
The Road Scholar program focuses on the fundamentals of management, safety, and technology and how they impact roadways.
Stephanie Featherstone said Matt Coe, Shane Sciuchetti, Larry Hammer, Cory Renner, Chris Morris and public works director Jessica Stutzke now qualify through the program and the county now has half of their staff certified.
“If we can get everyone in the roads department, all 24 people certified, that’ll help us score higher on our grants,” Featherstone said.
Currently four employees are enrolled in the Road Master program for an advanced certification through LHTAC.
Featherstone noted that through the certifications, the department became eligible to apply for a Local Rural Highway Investment Program grant offered every other year and was able to secure a grant this year for sealcoating for Shoshone County.
