LETTER: Dist. 2 Voters lucky to have Hearn as candidate

| October 8, 2024 1:00 AM

District 2 voters are fortunate to have a candidate such as Tom Hearn running to be their state senator.

Tom is a well-respected mental health professional, whose practice has emphasized services for children. His civic focus has been on education: he has served on boards for two different school districts, and in regional and state offices of the Idaho School Boards Association.

Gov. Cecil Andrus appointed Tom to serve on the Idaho State Board of Social Work Examiners. Later two different republican governors appointed Tom to the Idaho Sex Offender Classification Board. Two republican Idaho Attorneys General have called upon Tom to serve on task forces dealing with issues such as child witnesses and sex offender notification.

So Tom has worked productively with leaders from both parties. His bi-partisan approach will serve him well in the state senate. And his background working on issues affecting children and education show where his emphasis will be in the legislature.

And no questions have been raised about Tom’s residency in District 2. Nor has Tom wrongfully taken timber from state lands or avoided paying taxes. I know that sounds like a low bar, but not all candidates can say the same!

I hope everyone in District 2 will support Tom to be their next state senator.

Sincerely,

Pat Costello
