KELLOGG –– To paraphrase Sean Astin, you can boil ‘em, mash ‘em, stick ‘em in a stew...

Everybody loves potatoes and the local Rotary Club is about to hook it up!

Each year, a group of Kellogg Rotarians drive down to Blackfoot, where they pick up 350 boxes of Idaho Potatoes and bring them back for one of their biggest fundraisers of the year.

The club purchased 350 50-pound boxes of potatoes, and that’s exactly how they sell them.

“You can’t get Idaho Potatoes up here,” Rotarian Bob Stovern said. “They’re big bakers, but they make the best mashed potatoes, and wouldn’t you know it, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. You get a lot of potatoes for $25.”

Stovern explained how 100% of the money raised from the potato sale goes right back into the community as scholarships or charitable donations to local non-profits.

The sale begins on Saturday, October 19, in Kellogg’s City Park, but the Rotary Club will sell them until they run out.

Groups like the Shoshone Medical Center Foundation, Kellogg Storm Jr. Tackle Football, Kellogg Boys Basketball, Pinehurst Elementary, D.C. or Bust, and Kellogg High School’s Graduating Classes have all benefitted from the Kellogg Rotary Club’s fundraisers, including both the potato sale and the annual Leadman Triathlon.

“We sell out every year so make sure you get ahold of Rotary in order to secure your spuds,” Kellogg Rotary President Bridget Hojem said.

If you want to preorder a box of potatoes, call (208) 512-3380 or (208) 512-3385, or stop by Kellogg’s City Park on Saturday, October 19.
