OSBURN –– You know we’re knocking on the door of the holiday season when you hear the words Osburn Craft Fair.

The 42nd Annual Osburn Craft Fair is barely two weeks away and there are still spaces available for vendors.

The event has changed hands a few times in recent years, but currently, it’s hosted by the Silver Valley Kiwanis Club. For Bridget Hojem, a past president of the club, keeping the popular craft fair alive was important to her. Not just because of its significance to the community, but also its personal significance to her.

“I love the craft fair because I grew up going every year with my grandma and helped her run her booth,” Hojem said. “Now I have a booth of my own that she runs for me - it came full circle.”

The Osburn Craft Fair is truly a labor of love for those who have organized it. For more than 30 years, it was Bambi McKay who put in countless hours to ensure the fair went off without a hitch. After she passed away, the Silver Valley Chamber tried their hand at running the event, but with several other events happening simultaneously, they just couldn’t give it the attention it deserved. Ashlee Myles took it over in 2017, infusing needed youthful energy into regrowing the fair before passing it off into the capable hands of the Kiwanis.

The Osburn Craft Fair is unique in the way it takes Silver Hills Elementary School and completely transforms it into a bazaar-like atmosphere where booths line the hallways and fill the gymnasium and cafeteria, while legitimately being able to claim that there is something for everyone.

“It’s a special event, that’s for sure,” Hojem said. “The craft fair is a perfect place to buy unique, one-of-a-kind gifts for the holidays.”

The fair will feature local artwork, photography, cosmetics, soaps, clothing, and other handmade goods, but there is still room for more.

The Silver Hills PTO will be selling food throughout the fair, while Girl Scout Troop #2505 will be wrapping gift items as a fundraiser.

The 42nd Annual Osburn Craft Fair is November 2-3, at Silver Hills Elementary School in Osburn.
