Shannon Kay Bening, 70, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully March 28, 2025, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene.

She was born Feb. 12, 1955, in the former Wardner Hospital in Kellogg, Idaho, the daughter of the late James “Jim” Bruce Bening and Jewel D. (Bouldin) Bening.

A proud graduate of Kellogg High School, Class of 1973, Shannon dedicated 38 years of her career to the U.S. Forest Service before retiring. She was known for her kind heart, sharp wit and unwavering loyalty to her family and friends.

Shannon found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She adored her nieces and cherished the time spent with them. A lifelong cat lover, her feline companion brought her immense comfort and joy. She enjoyed relaxing with a good book, immersing herself in computer games and indulging in her favorite television shows. Her dialysis community became an extended family, offering camaraderie and support that she deeply valued. Above all, Shannon treasured moments shared with her loved ones, creating lasting memories filled with warmth and laughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Jewel Bening; and her brother, Jim Bening Jr. She is survived by her brother, Wilson (Candy) Bening of Cataldo, Idaho; three nieces, Heather (Marc) Dayton of Spokane Valley, Wash., Casandra Bening (Curtis Briggs) of Moscow, Idaho, and Brooke Bening of Cataldo, Idaho; as well as an uncle, Dale (Cheryl) Bening of Lewiston, Idaho.

At Shannon’s request, a private family memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a local animal shelter or the National Kidney Foundation in her honor.
