OSBURN – A familiar building has a new tenant now that WestWind Wellness Clinic has opened in the former Shoshone News-Press office.

Founded in 2023 by the father and son team of Rick and Joshua Westby, WestWind has been active in Coeur d’Alene for two years, but the Silver Valley natives wanted to see something in their own community. Specifically, Joshua, WestWind’s executive director, who wrote his doctoral dissertation on preventative interventions for at-risk, with an emphasis on Shoshone County.

“That research, built on years of education and connection to the region, highlighted a clear need for services tailored to this community – by people who truly understand it,” Westby said. “As a team, we saw the importance of planting deep roots and creating a lasting resource that could serve generations. This office is the result of over a decade of education, research, and dedication to making that vision a reality.”

WestWind Silver Valley will offer a number of mental health services, including talk therapy, peer support, skill-building, and life coaching. They will also utilize the community space inside their building to host substance use recovery, anger management, parenting support, and skill development.

“Our mission is to provide not only individualized care but also accessible, community-driven mental health resources that meet people where they are,” Westby said. “We’re committed to creating a space that feels safe, welcoming, and rooted in the unique needs of the Silver Valley.”

WestWind’s staff is both experienced and rooted in the Silver Valley. Joshua brings 14 years of experience, working primarily with youth. Rick has spent a lifetime specializing in treating and supporting patients who struggle with substance use, depression, adjustment, and life transitions. Last year they hired Matt Stebbins to shore up their administrative staff and felt that, along with their roster of clinicians, they had assembled a dream team.

“We often joke that between all of us, we know just about everyone in the county – and that’s exactly the kind of local, relational support we aim to provide,” Joshua said. “As a team, we saw the importance of planting deep roots and creating a lasting resource that could serve generations. This office is the result of over a decade of education, research, and dedication to making that vision a reality.”

The Westbys have a simple goal for their new office, to provide impactful and culturally aware support while also staying true to the Silver Valley’s history and values.

WestWind’s Coeur d’Alene office recently relocated to a larger, ADA compliant facility, that allows them to provide a wider range of services while also acting as the company’s training center for new mental health clinicians.

“We believe every community deserves access to high-quality, culturally relevant care,” Joshua said. “WestWind is here to listen, adapt, and grow alongside the people we serve. Whether someone needs help navigating a tough time, building life skills, or simply being seen and heard, we’re ready to walk with them.”

WestWind Wellness Center’s new Coeur d’Alene location is located at 1919 N. 3rd St. The new Silver Valley office is located at 620 E. Mullan Ave. In Osburn. For more information or to schedule an appointment call (208)261-1158.
