Leadman gives back
KELLOGG – Last month, members of Kellogg Rotary Club presented checks to several organizations that had volunteered at the annual Leadman Triathlon in April.
Through partnerships between the Rotary Club of Kellogg, Silver Mountain Resort, and Dave Smith, $13,000 was distributed to the different groups.
Silver Mountain Resort’s Event Coordinator Gus Colburn spoke to the level of challenge that comes with putting on the Leadman event – a race that begins at the top of Silver Mountain and ends at the resort base, with skiing, biking, and running intervals in between.
“It’s organized chaos,” Colburn said. “We have kids running around with skis and bikes, making sure they get to where they need to go. It’s a huge effort for everyone and a huge event for the community.”
Among the groups who received funds were Silver Valley Special Olympics, Kellogg Boys Basketball, Shoshone Pet Rescue, Silver Valley Cat Wranglers, Kellogg Jr. Tackle Football, Pinehurst Elementary School, Kellogg High School Class of 2027, and Shoshone County Fire District #2.
Funds are raised through registration fees and sponsorships, and through 21 events Leadman has raised over $200,000 that has been reinvested in the community.
“We love hosting this event with Kellogg Rotary because we can support local groups while celebrating the mountain lifestyle in our town,” Colburn said previously.
