WALLACE — Junior Draeden Taylor scored 11 of his game-high 29 points in the third quarter for the Kellogg Wildcats in a win over the Wallace Miners at Kirby Krulitz Court on Monday. 

“We came out a little flat I think and Wallace took advantage of it,” said Kellogg coach Mike Martin, whose team led 21-19 at halftime before outscoring the Miners 20-6 in the third quarter. “They turned us over a little more than we’d like in the first half, but the guys really turned it on in the second half. Draeden did a good job of attacking the basket in the second half and getting to the line.” 

Senior Brodie Robinson scored 16 points for Kellogg. 

Sophomore Emmitt Myles scored seven points for Wallace.

WALLACE — Kylee Phillips and Bethany Phillips scored eight points each for the Miners, who held off the Jaguars in a Scenic Idaho Conference game at Kirby Krulitz Court.  

Wallace fell to Genesis Prep (9-6, 2-2) 54-34 in the consolation game of the Silver Valley Tournament on Nov. 23 in Kellogg, then again 38-37 a league game at The Courts in Post Falls on Dec. 19.  

Kinzie Lawler scored nine points for Genesis Prep.  

Wallace hosts Lakeside on Jan. 23.

KELLOGG — Junior guard JJ Yearout scored a game-high 26 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Lumberjacks past the Wildcats in a Central Idaho League game at Andrews Gymnasium. 

Junior Jack Barta had 11 points and four assists for St. Maries. 

“I think the tempo was in our favor tonight,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “Our press got us into the tempo we wanted to play at tonight and might have forced them into some quicker shots tonight.” 

Junior Isaiah Gustaffe had five points and nine rebounds for St. Maries. 

“We kind of got everyone going,” Chase said. “JJ got going early and our bench guys really did a good job of paying attention to the defensive plan tonight.” 

Junior Draeden Taylor scored 13 points for Kellogg. 

“A big part of this loss is on me,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “The guys fought to get back into it and I got a technical foul down eight with 1:30 left, so that’s squarely on me. St. Maries did a great job of playing physical and dictating terms with their defensive effort tonight. They beat us up on the glass and JJ really got it going tonight.”

POST FALLS — Draeden Taylor scored 15 of his game-high 22 points in the first half for the Wildcats in a nonleague win over the Jaguars at The Courts. 

Brodie Robinson had five 3-pointers, four in the second half, to finish with 20 points for Kellogg. 

“I’m real proud of the guys,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “It would have been easy not to get up for this after a tough league loss at home (to St. Maries on Friday), but it was good to see them come out and handle their business. We got a little loose with the ball in the second half, but outside of that, it was good to see.” 

Gabe Meyer scored 16 points for Genesis Prep.

KELLOGG — The host Wildcats got pins from Chase Scribner (138 pounds) and Jayce Haynes to beat the Lumberjacks at Andrews Gymnasium. 

“It was another hard-fought match,” Kellogg coach Scott Miller said. “We’re happy to come away with the win. 

Wyatt Story (at 132) got a big win for us early and that kind of set the tone for us. Give St. Maries credit, they just keep coming at you.” 

Kody Tefft (165) and Aiden Yearout (175) had major decisions for St. Maries.

Clearwater Classic 

LEWISTON — Kevin Watson (106 pounds), Colton Storey (113), Treven Bush (132), John Brownfield (150), Levi Brown (175C) and Gracen Haynes (190C) claimed individual titles for Kellogg, which finished second in the Clearwater Classic at Lewiston High. 

Lewiston won the tournament with 213 points, followed by Kellogg with 201. 

“Our team wrestled really well this weekend and showed a lot of fortitude,” Kellogg Coach Scott Miller said. “We got excellent results from every one of our kids this weekend and continue to see really good progression from week to week.  Just an excellent job, especially because we were down a couple of starters due to injuries. Our depth is beginning to show for us so we're really happy with where we are right now but we realize we have a lot of work left to do if we are to meet the goals we have set for ourselves for the postseason.”  

Coeur d’Alene’s Micah Miller (98), Emmett McLachlan (120B), Seth Frederickson (132C), Carter Jones (138C) and Riley Berger (190A) won their brackets, leading the Vikings to third with 196.5 points. 

Isaiah Cramer (120A), Jared Wallace (126D), Geoff Brooks (132D), Mason Torres (157D), Kodyn Foreman (175B), Cash Preston (190B) and Kyler Miller (285A) won titles for Post Falls. 

Zach David (157), Aiden Yearout (165) and Rustle Brusseau (215A) won titles for St. Maries. 

Priest River’s Colm McLaimtaig pinned Malachi Huff of Davenport, who was 31-5 on the year, and Gunnar Whitlock of Lewiston in the 144-pound championship.
