Kellogg hosting Fourth of July Kickoff celebration
KELLOGG – Those eager to kick off the holiday weekend early will find plenty to enjoy at Kellogg’s Fourth of July Kickoff celebration this Thursday.
Festivities begin Thursday afternoon at Kellogg City Park, where a wide range of family-friendly activities will take place, including live music, local vendors, a dunk tank, and a horseshoe tournament.
Before the park festivities begin, the annual Fourth of July parade will march down Main Street and McKinley Avenue, setting the tone for the evening.
This year’s celebration aligns with the Silver Valley Chamber’s Music in the Park summer concert series, which takes place every Thursday at City Park throughout the season. On Thursday, the series will feature performances by TJ Hoops and the Sara Brown Band.
After the music wraps up, families are invited to stay for a free outdoor screening of Holes (rated PG), beginning at 9:15 p.m.
City of Kellogg Community Events Planner Monica Miller explained that hosting the event on Thursday instead of Friday was a strategic decision.
“The Silver Valley Chamber’s Music in the Park was already scheduled for Thursday and it made sense to coordinate with their free concert and market,” Miller said. “We anticipate quite a few people leaving town for the long weekend; this creates a void not only in attendance, but in volunteers, and we wanted city staff to enjoy the day off with their families.”
The celebration continues on Friday, July 4, with the annual Firecracker 5K race in the morning, followed by a fireworks show at Silver Mountain that night.
City of Kellogg’s Fourth of July Kickoff Schedule:
Thursday, July 3
4:30 p.m. – Parade
5:00 p.m. – Horseshoe Tournament
5:30 p.m. – Live music, dunk tank, and vendors
9:15 p.m. – Free movie in the park (Holes, rated PG)
Friday, July 4
8:00 a.m. – Firecracker 5K
10:00 p.m. – Fireworks show at Silver Mountain
"The city chose to resurrect Kellogg’s Fourth of July celebration in 2023," Miller said. "The event is run almost entirely by city staff along with four or five members from community groups who oversee portions of the festivities. Our goal this year was to provide a fun, relaxed lead-in to the holiday weekend for everyone, including those who dedicate their time to running the event."
