Wallace Music Fest this weekend

WALLACE – The second annual Wallace Music Fest is this weekend, and organizers are excited to watch their new festival grow.

Wallace Music Fest was created last summer as a last-minute replacement for the Wallace Blues Festival, which was canceled at the eleventh hour by the organizers due to several factors. In true Wallace fashion, a group of volunteers quickly mobilized, and in less than a week they organized the first Wallace Music Fest.

Nick Freije, president of the Wallace Music Fest Committee, discussed how last year, for all of its troubles, was something to be proud of. This year, the group wants to return to what made the defunct blues festival so popular.

“Last year we put a lot of bands in bars,” Freije said. “It worked out great, but we want to get back to having multiple different stages in bigger spaces.”

As part of this, the festival will feature a main stage and a gazebo stage. According to Freije, the gazebo stage will be for smaller, acoustic-style sets, while the main stage will showcase the event’s featured artists.

Each day, the main stage acts will begin at 11 a.m., with a different act roughly every two hours. The headliner for each day will begin at 9:30 p.m.

The committee also wanted to make sure that they honored the people who loved the music of the former blues festival, so they made sure to keep as many blues artists as they could.

“Friday is going to be more rock music, but on Saturday we’re keeping it bluesy,” Freije said.

Friday night will be headlined by rock band Snacks at Midnight, while Saturday’s festival closer will once again be blues legend Sammy Eubanks.

The festival is free to attend and is open to all ages.

“None of us are music promoters, but we all knew we didn’t want this to go away,” Freije said. “We had some really good donors step up to help us make this happen and I’m really excited.”

Wallace Music Fest is July 11 and 12 in downtown Wallace. For more information, including a full lineup of artists, check out the Wallace Music Fest Facebook page.
