SilverHoops does it again
KELLOGG – Perfect weather, thousands of spectators, and just the right amount of competitive spirit made SilverHoops 2025 one to remember.
This year, 190 teams battled it out on the blacktop near Teeters Field, each one looking to claim that special championship shirt.
With 18 divisions, ranging from third grade to men’s 32-plus, the event was a team lift that began with the work of the SilverHoops Committee, with a major assist from several local volunteer groups.
“With the expanded court layout this year, we relied heavily on the support of our amazing community volunteers, and they came through once again,” committee member Ethan Wendt said. “Huge thanks to the Wallace Cheer Squad, Kellogg Boys and Girls Basketball teams, KHS Booster Club and Athletics Department, the Historic Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce, and all the individual community members who showed up to help. We couldn’t have done it without them.”
After Spokane’s Hoopfest, SilverHoops is the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the region and has become one of the Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce’s biggest annual events.
A few years ago, the chamber and committee elected to shift the format of the tournament from a standard two-day, double-elimination tournament to a two-day event, where day one was all pool play, and day two was a single-elimination tournament.
The change has been universally successful for the event and the community.
“What really sets SilverHoops apart from other 3-on-3s is our format,” Wendt said. “Teams get more guaranteed games thanks to our Saturday round robin setup and Sunday single elimination brackets. It keeps folks in town all weekend, which benefits both the players and our local businesses and vendors.”
Access to Kellogg’s city park and swimming pool allows families to come and enjoy a full weekend. At the same time, basketball enthusiasts are right at home with hundreds of other like-minded individuals.
“SilverHoops is a great time to run into old friends and make new ones, all connected by the love of the game of basketball,” committee member Gus Colburn said. “It’s the best weekend of the year, in my opinion.”
