Fishhook Tunnel construction begins
ST. MARIES – The Fishhook Tunnel on Gold Center Road #301 is now closed for up to eight weeks for public safety as contractors repair the historic tunnel, located on the St. Joe Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests.
Search and Rescue attempting to locate missing male
The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reports that Search and Recuse teams have been actively searching the Lost Creek area, approximately 28 miles up Coeur d’Alene River Rd. near Prichard/ Murray, for 39- year old Jay Deming of Kootenai County.

Extreme fire behavior prompts expanded St. Joe Ranger District closures
Effective August 3, 2021, the area closure encompasses the headwaters of the St. Joe River, from Avery upstream.

IPNF announces temporary closure for Fishhook Road
AVERY— The Idaho Panhandle National Forest will be issuing a temporary road closure on Forest Service Road #301, Fishhook Creek, in Shoshone County on the St. Joe Ranger District due to fire activity from the Roundhouse Fire. Rocks, trees, and other debris from the fire area are falling into the roadway and pose a threat to public safety.

SCSO Search and Rescue locates missing man
The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reports that in the late hours of Oct. 5, dispatch received a call that Richard Curran, 44, had walked away from his campsite near Pegleg Mountain on the Idaho/Montana border and had not returned.

After a fatal crash and vehicle fire Thursday night in Big Creek, law enforcement found themselves with a mystery on their hands when it came to the identity of the deceased man found in the vehicle.

Evelyn May (Roe) Rogers Burkett, passed away peacefully Aug. 5, 2021, following a brief illness. Evy May, as she was known by most, was born in Buffalo, Wyo., on Aug. 16, 1934, to Joseph Henry and Lillian May (Maddox) Roe and was brought back to the ranch in Johnson County on the Crazy Woman River, to meet her older brother, Joe.
