WALLACE­— A multi-agency search and rescue operation conducted in the St. Joe River area of Shoshone County yielded the retrieval of an injured male and deceased female who were stranded in the woods.

SMELTERVILLE – If residents in the area of Rose Lake, Medimont, Osburn/Wallace, Murray or Calder see some smoke coming from the woods- there is most likely no reason to be alarmed. The United State Forest Service recently announced that crews will be preforming several controlled wildland burning operations in the Coeur d’Alene and St. Joe River Ranger Districts to reduce potential wildfire impacts, prepare areas for tree planting and improve wildlife forage.

Before you light that kindling though, it’s vital that you make sure your stove and/or chimney are in working order — otherwise you could have a much bigger problem on your hands than being chilly.

Judge denies request to halt Brebner Flat Project on IPNF

On July 13, Judge B. Lynn Winmill of the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho denied a motion for preliminary injunction against the Brebner Flat Project on the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, allowing the forest health project to proceed. With support from the American Forest Resource Council (AFRC) and its attorneys, AFRC member Stimson Lumber intervened in the litigation in support of the Forest Service. Stimson has purchased timber associated with the project.
