Big news for 6th Street Bridge

The bridge, which allows access from downtown Wallace to Ninemile Canyon and Dobson Pass, has been under weight restrictions for nearly five years – and has been the home of a temporary bridge over the top of it for almost four.

It was busy pair of days at the Shoshone County Courthouse on Tuesday and Wednesday, as multiple cases proceeded through the legal system. Among them were the sentencings of Richard Rogers Jr. and Logan Silva, as well as the arraignment of accused murderer Stephanie Paris.

The Idaho Department of Finance is warning consumers to be on the lookout for romance scams in light of an increased number of reported complaints to various government agencies across North America. In 2021 alone, consumers reported losing a staggering $547 million to romance scams, according to 2022 data from the Federal Trade Commission.
PHD: Harmful algae in Rose Lake
Panhandle Health District (PHD) in collaboration with the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare (IDHW) and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) have issued a public health advisory for Rose Lake. Recent water sampling by DEQ indicates the presence of cyanobacteria, also known as a harmful algae bloom (HAB) or blue green algae in Rose Lake. The public is urged to use caution when recreating in or near the water, especially where ingestion is a risk.

October 2 – 8 is National 4-H Week and several members of the local Easy Riders 4-H Horse Club made the trip to the Idaho State Competition in Nampa. The team qualified for state competition based upon their finish at the recent Shoshone/Kootenai County regional competition in Coeur d’Alene.

Fall for History festival-goers were treated to a special sneak peek of the commemorative sign that will be placed at the site of the former Samuels Hotel last weekend. Wallace resident and Samuels historian Dick Caron organized the event, and along with fellow historians Courtney Frieh, Jim See, Linda See, Tom Harman, and Ron Roizen, discussed the importance of the site as well as the significance of the sign and its design.
