To find the headstone belonging to First Lieutenant Frank Stanley Reasoner, you’d have to make your way to the back of the cemetery where the veterans have their own special section. It’s not a fancy marker by any means, in fact, it’s very much like many of the other surrounding veteran’s grave markers. Walking up to it, you would never guess that you were at the final resting place of a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.

The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder/suicide that occurred on Wednesday evening in Wallace. Elizabeth D. Lawley, 33, was found dead in her father’s home, along with her two-year-old son – both deaths caused by apparent gunshot wounds.

In the Coeur d’Alene MLS Market, which includes Shoshone County, from the Year over Year Comparison Report all active residential listings during the month of April 2023 were up 41.7% compared to 2022, with 1,817 active listings vs 1,282 at this time last year.
Commissioners considering options with leased properties
A recent decision from the Shoshone Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) may lead to some frustrations from former lessees. It was recently announced that the BOCC would not be renewing any leases on county property through May 31, to give the board time to review the properties that had been leased and determine if that was the best use of them.

Dirty Dogs help clean kittens
When the Silver Valley Cat Wranglers were notified that 19 kittens had been abandoned at the Trail Motel in February they knew they were going to need the support of the community to get these kiddie kitties into stable, nurturing homes.
Silver Valley food banks receive VFW donation
A recent string of donations from the Shoshone VFW Post 1675, has the local Silver Valley food banks extending their gratitude. In April, Post Commander Chris Marker took $500 to each of the four food banks in Shoshone County.

Remembering to never forget the Sunshine Mine disaster

Tuesday morning marked the 51st anniversary of the disaster that claimed 91 lives at the Sunshine Mine. Hundreds of people, including those in the mining community, students, and family members made their way to the memorial statue at the bottom of Big Creek to celebrate, remember, and mourn those lives lost.

Shoshone County Commissioners approve hardship petition for resident affected by 2021 legislative decision
Changes to Idaho’s Property Tax Reduction program in 2021 may have put many Shoshone County residents in a position to claim hardship. On Wednesday morning, the Shoshone Board of County Commissioners heard a petition for a hardship exemption from a local resident who suddenly saw her annual taxes raised by nearly 200% despite previously qualifying for the circuit breaker for many years.
